This year’s Mobile World Congress hasn’t been as big of an industry disruption as previous years, but there are still companies debuting new products and highlighting advancements in technology. One of the most impressive is the YouCare t-shirt, which is powered by ZTE electronics.

The YouCare shirt has built-in sensors that are “naturally set” in the fabric of the shirt. These sensors can detect a number of health aspects including body temperature and muscle effort, can analyze the components of sweat and respiratory functions and even can provide similar data to that of an electrocardiogram. Despite these high-tech sensors, the YouCare shirt is still perfectly washable and doesn’t contain any metal.

This data can then be sent to a number of locations including individual users and even local healthcare facilities. The data is sent via ZTE’s 5G technology, meaning it should be delivered quickly and accurately.

The YouCare shirt’s development has taken place entirely in Italy, and has involved the Italian Red Cross’s input.

"It is an invention that will change the life and the quality of home and remote medical assistance to many citizens experiencing health problems and vulnerable people suffering from chronic diseases, ensuring accessibility to care services and the support of our national and international network," Francesco Rocca, Chairman of Italian Red Cross and IFRC, said in a press release. "We have been working on the project since 2018 and today we are able to present the results of this important experimentation, born in the most difficult moment of the Covid emergency. This experimentation allows us to think with pride about the path made so far and to look to the future with hope and certainty of having demonstrated the commitment, the ability and the dedication of the Red Cross network, to use and to disseminate new technologies for the service of the people and of the society."

No release information or pricing has been revealed alongside the YouCare smart shirt, though testing for the shirt should begin in the fall. Seeing as how the project has been developed in Italy, it would make sense to expect a launch in Italy before expanding to a wider market.
