National Receptionists’ Day is marked annually on the second Wednesday in May. This year, the day falls on May 12, and is a celebration of the receptionists whose valuable contributions help the companies where they work.

Receptionists create the first impression to all customers, in person, and on the telephone. Their skills play an important role in each company’s image. Here are some quotes, courtesy AZquotes, to read and share on this day:

1. "Be good, kind, and friendly to the receptionist. She's had a hard day." – Rebecca Pidgeon

2. "You might be a redneck if the receptionist checks the rat traps at your place of business." – Jeff Foxworthy

3. "Most people who work at home find they do not have the benefit of receptionists who serve as personal guards." – Judith Martin

4. "You only get one chance to make a good first impression, and yours may be in the hands of the receptionist." – Harvey Mackay

5. "The fact of the matter is that when there are feelings involved and you like someone, it doesn't matter if you're an actor, a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a receptionist, you can't really help it when you have feelings for someone." – Jessica Szohr

6. I got my first job the old-fashioned way: I took an elevator to the top floor of many buildings and walked down floor by floor on the stairs going into every firm and asking the receptionist if she knew of any jobs available." – Alan Patricof

7. "My goal was to do anything that would lead to a job. I know that writing would not lead to a job. It's too fancy for me. My biggest goal was to be an office receptionist, answer phones. I didn't expect to go beyond that." – Anchee Min
