National Stress Awareness Day, which falls on the first Wednesday of November, puts a spotlight on the importance of relaxing one's mind to relieve stress.

The occasion was created by Carole Spiers, the chairperson of the International Stress Management Association, to increase awareness about stress and to help people manage it in their daily lives.

One of the best ways you can celebrate this special day is by learning about the different steps you can take to cope with stress, just like the following. (Courtesy: Healthline)

  • Listening to music - Studies have shown that playing calm music can help reduce stress levels as it can lower your blood pressure and reduce cortisol, bringing an overall positive effect to your body.
  • Venting to a friend - Talking to a friend and sharing your worries with them can help take the burden off your mind and, in turn, make you feel more relaxed.
  • Eating right - Following a healthy diet with less sugar and fatty snacks when you are dealing with a lot of stress can do wonders for your mind and body.
  • Exercising - Doing simple exercises can help release endorphins and improve blood circulation which can elevate your mood.
