National Wildlife Day is marked annually on Sept. 4 to raise awareness about forest-dwelling plants and animal species.

The day was founded in 2005 by animal behaviorist and philanthropist Colleen Paige, according to the official website.

The main aim of this day is to educate people about the need to preserve and rescue endangered animals in the United States and across the globe.
