  • Boston fans show their support of their team’s heart and soul

We’ve heard a lot of not-so-good news about Marcus Smart whenever he is on the floor – about his physicality in the game, receiving a couple of technical fouls to hit the showers earlier than the rest, and worse, ejections and suspensions right after.

Now that the rugged Celtics guard was the latest addition to the list of infected players who got the coronavirus, Boston fans are going all out to cheer up their defensive lynchpin.

The 26-year old guard announced on his social media, revealing himself as the player that the team is referring to on their official statement that one of their players tested positive for coronavirus. On his post, he said that they were tested five days ago and just got the results tonight, revealing the bad news about his health status.

Smart emphasized the importance of washing ones’ hands to prevent the virus from spreading further through physical contact, as well as not engaging in activities that are attended by a large number of people.

According to the team’s statement, the player who was diagnosed with the virus got it by exposing himself to a known positive case, though it was cleared whether they are referring to a fellow NBA player or someone from the public.

The 6-foot-3 defensive guard put his heart on the floor each night for the Boston fans but this time, it’s the fans’ turn to show their player some love and wishes as he is on his way to recovery.

Before the NBA suspended all remaining games as a precautionary measure, Smart is averaging 13.5 points, 4.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals for the Celtics, who was just the third team from the Eastern Conference to clinch a playoff spot before the decision to indefinitely suspend the current season was made.

Smart joins Utah Jazz’ Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, Detroit Piston’s forward Christian Wood, and Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant the list of identified players who were diagnosed with coronavirus as some teams chose not to disclose names to the public.
