  • The Golden State Warriors are currently last in the Western Conference
  • The Warriors picked up Andrew Wiggins during the trade deadline
  • Draymond Green compares the defensive potential of Wiggins to Kevin Durant

Draymond Green has been one of the biggest pieces in the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty team. He was selected in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft but has blossomed into one of the league’s most versatile big men. He is assigned as the team’s power forward and is an all-around defender. The six-foot-six frontcourt player works around the system to compliment the high-octane offense of the Warriors.

While Green has accounted for so much success of the Warriors, this season has been a recovering year for the franchise. After five straight trips to the finals, injuries plagued them this season and has spiraled them down to the last place of the Western Conference.

This sparked mid-season deals that saw them land the former number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins to suit up for the Bay Area. Wiggins is an athletic forward who can easily find ways to put the ball through the basket. Although he is gifted offensively, he’s heavily criticized for seemingly not putting enough effort. The change of landscape will hopefully change the reputation that he has put up.

Green shared that he set a high goal for Wiggins for his stint with the team. “I think he can be an All-Defensive player,” he said. “That’s one of my goals for him as the leader of this team, one of the things I really want to push him on.”

“He has a lot of tools, he has a lot of athleticism. He reminds me a lot of Kevin [Durant] as a defender.” Green continued by praising how they’re both lanky yet has the agility to be mobile around the court. “They’re very skinny guys but not weak.”

Durant is now a member of the Brooklyn Nets and is sitting the season out to recover from his torn Achilles. Durant was pivotal in the championship runs of the Warriors as he was named the Finals MVP twice. He is set to return next year as he’s taking his time to recover and rehabilitate his injury.

Wiggins remains to put up good numbers despite the criticism with close to 23 points per game and 5 rebounds per outing.
