Team USA is expected to draw a lot of flack after finishing 7th in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. It was something critics felt was coming, especially with a lot of big-name players opting to pass and focus on their respective NBA teams for the coming season.

In moves that are seen by some as being selfish, Draymond Green gives his take on why some NBA stars possibly passed up representing USA Basketball at the FIBA World Cup. The 29-year-old pointed out to the schedule as a possible reason, branding it a little treacherous on CNBC's Power Money.

“The schedule this year was a little treacherous with the games that was in America, and also the travel to Australia, which is why I think a lot of guys dropped out. You know, a long ways to China. It was just a lot, and it also leads right into the season. Those guys will be coming back in the next couple days and we’ll be two weeks away from training camp,” he said.

While USA Basketball is likely to re-assess the debacle, Green says that he would want to play on Team USA in the Olympics. He hopes to be one of the 12 guys representing America. He also added that teammate Stephen Curry would be happy to volunteer since he has not yet played for Team USA during an Olympic tournament.

However, the players representing Team USA will depend on the people behind USA Basketball. Managing director Michael Colangelo will be among them and according to ESPN, he has taken note of the players who withdrew in the weeks leading up to the competition.

“I’m a firm believer that you deal with the cards you’re dealt. All we could have done, and we did it, is get the commitments from a lot of players. So with that kind of a hand, you feel reasonably confident that you’re going to be able to put a very good representative team on the court,” he said.

There is a chance that the 2019 FIBA World Cup debacle could serve as a wake-up call to other NBA stars that the world has finally caught up with them. And if they are up to the challenge, it may be time to prove to the world once again that they are still at the top.
