  • Lou Williams slams the NBA's All-Star selection process
  • Williams pleads for consistency
  • Trae Young believes Devin Booker should be an All-Star

The NBA All-Star Game reserves were announced on Thursday. And just like in the years before, the announcement was followed by the usual protests from spectators.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams was one of the many who made an appeal, slamming the league’s selection process while citing his case on the unexpected snub of Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

The three-time sixth-man of the year pleaded for consistency as he mentioned that the 23-year-old rising star should have been a shoo-in for a slot in the reserves.

“We need some consistency in what’s rewarded in the selection process. D book should be a perennial all-star, but he isn’t based on winning. But the guys that’s winning not getting in either lol. So is it numbers, or winning, or name recognition?” he wrote on his Twitter account.

While not specifically mentioned, it looks like Williams was pertaining to the selection of Hawks starting guard Trae Young, who, while putting up unquestionable “All-Star-like” numbers, still belongs to a team whose record is not quite up to snuff. Atlanta is dead last in the East after winning only 13 of its 49 games so far.

Strangely, the 21-year-old was even one of the first players who expressed their disappointment to Booker’s snub. “D Book should’ve gotten in…” he wrote on a Twitter post.

Booker averages 27.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.4 assists while shooting at a career-best 51% from the field. The Suns are at the 11th spot in the West with a 20-27 record.

Apart from Booker, fans also believe that Zach Lavine, Derrick Rose, Bradley Beal, DeMar Derozan and Jaylen Brown should have been given the nod to participate in the event.

The reserves were announced right after the NBA released a new game format which will also serve as a tribute to Kobe Bryant.

The names that are included in the list are Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons, Kyle Lowry, Khris Middleton, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum, and Bam Adebayo from the Eastern Conference while Nikola Jokic, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Chris Paul, Brandon Ingram, and Russell Westbrook comprise the reserves from the West.
