  • Bulls part with Forman after 22 years
  • Boylen likely next
  • Forman replacement to be known soon

As expected, Gar Forman's tenure as general manager for the Chicago Bulls has come to a close. Forman was a former NBA Executive of the Year but his stay with the franchise was on thin ice with a new president for basketball operations on board. Arturas Karnisovas was widely expected to ax Forman with several names already listed.

In a previous post, the names of Calvin Booth, Michael Finley, Mark Eversley, Mark Hughes, Matt Lloyd and Nazir Mohammed were among the candidates that Karnisovas already had. The latest addition there was Dell Demps, reportedly a move to prove that the Lithuanian wanted to prove that he is open to hiring a black general manager. As of this writing, there was no mention of who among the candidates had the lead on the now-vacant general manager position. But the dismissal of Forman likely hints at a replacement coming soon.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to work for the Chicago Bulls for more than two decades. There is no better ownership group in professional sports than the Reinsdorfs, and I want to thank Jerry and Michael for their support during my tenure. The Bulls organization will always hold a special place in my heart," Forman said in an official statement over at NBA.com.

The Bulls are serious about turning things around. And from the looks of it, Forman's exit is just the beginning. More are expected to follow and the next person who could be given the pink slip is Jim Boylen.

Under his watch, the Bulls showed some promise. But the bottom line here is results. Though he has made an impression surviving the current NBA season with a depleted roster, Karnisovas may want someone who can more effectively run the team to perform better. Also, it is no secret that Boylen has had his issues with the players, something that Karnisovas could also factor in.

Regardless, it appears Boylen will just cross the bridge when he gets there. So far, Karnisovas has not hinted on a list of potential coaches to replace the 54-year-old coach. Boylen is confident of keeping his job but the best he can hope for is to call the shots for the early part of the next NBA season. If given the chance and he fails, a new head coach is likely to take over Chicago soon.
