The Dallas Mavericks are expected to be busy this NBA offseason and one target could be Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic. The 28-year-old cager is set to become an unrestricted free agent and several teams are expected to make their pitch to the Montenegrin basketball player.

That, of course, will depend on what the Magic have planned. Team president Jeff Weltman sounded off and made it know that they intend to keep Vucevic, likely because of his performance during the 2018-19 NBA season. The 16th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft had a breakout season, putting up averages of 20.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1 steal. Aside from that, he owned a 36.4-percent shooting clip from the three-point region, making him one of the tempting free agents in the offseason.

“You know, it’s the NBA, and as I always say, there’s a lot of real estate between the intentions and what gets done. But it is a priority for us,” Weltman said in a report from The Athletic.

When the Magic took in Mo Bamba, the consensus was that Vucevic is likely to walk this coming summer. However, all this was before he earned the nod for his first NBA All-Star appearance because of his performance. And now that other NBA teams have taken notice, the Magic hope to find a way to keep him in the mix.

As far as Vucevic is concerned, nothing is set in stone. He is waiting to see what the Magic plan to do but seemingly implied that he will just worry about his future once a suited contract comes his way, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The Mavericks could hand him something interesting although it comes with precedents.

The Mavericks could possibly offer Vucevic a five-year contract worth $140.6 million. But before all this, the Mavs need to iron out things with Kristaps Porzingis. The entire thing would become a game of numbers for Dallas and the last thing Rick Carlisle and company who need to sit down and discuss the pros and cons – including the potential addition of Vucevic.

Should the Mavs be successful, the Mavs will live up to its billing as going Euro with Vucevic, Porzingis, and Luka Doncic – making them one of the NBA squads to watch next NBA season.
