KEY POINTS

  • Kevin Durant could return to action for the Brooklyn Nets soon
  • Durant's injury is not that grave, but the Nets are taking a cautious approach
  • The Nets' team chemistry is still in question

The Brooklyn Nets are undeniably one of this year’s favorites to vie for the NBA championship plum.

However, this can only come to fruition if they have a healthy lineup come to the postseason wars.

Hence, this means that players like Kevin Durant need to be in tiptop shape if the Nets want to win it all this 2020-21 season.

As most know, Durant suffered a leg injury against the Miami Heat on Sunday. He was forced out of the game, and seeing the former NBA MVP in this situation is something hoop fans are worried about.

Most know the history of Durant’s injuries, something that has often turned the tables on teams where he played for. A good example would be the Golden State Warriors during the 2019 NBA Finals.

It will be recalled the Durant sat out some of the playoff games due to a strained right calf. He returned in Game 5 of the finals but ended up suffering an Achilles tendon injury.

Durant limped off the court and was forced on the sidelines for a considerable amount of time.

Recalling this incident is something that the Nets are worried about.

The good news is that Durant’s current injury happened in the regular season. He has the luxury of time to rest his leg.

Furthermore, the latest update is that the two-time NBA champion’s injury is not serious.

Rather than staying at home, Durant continues to travel with the team. However, it remains unclear when he could play again.

For now, head coach Steve Nash will have to bank on other starts to step up. James Harden is also not at 100% and has missed some of Brooklyn’s games. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving has been in and out of the lineup for a variety of reasons.

While talented on paper, these mishaps could take a toll on the Nets in the playoffs. They do have a lot of firepower in their ranks, but the chemistry of the club’s "Big Three" hasn't been established.
