  • The Knicks may trade their eighth overall pick for the 2020 NBA Draft, a report said
  • They are only interested in James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball
  • The Knicks may also opt for a veteran point guard this offseason

The New York Knicks own the rights to the eighth overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft but only have two players in mind: Lonzo Ball and James Wiseman. From where they stand, the chances of landing either are not looking good. Both are likely to be picked up in the top five.

Marc Berman of New York Post reported, citing unnamed league sources, that the Knicks are now exploring options for their 8th pick rights. Aside from Ball and Wiseman, New York does not fancy anyone from this year's rookie class, but they are on the prowl for a big man and someone who can provide offense. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Pundits feel the Knicks are not prioritizing taking in a point guard and are looking for a scorer. Ball would fit that need, although their chances of getting hold of him don't look that good.

Ball could end up either with the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Golden State Warriors — teams who own the first and second overall pick rights, respectively.

There is no question New York needs added firepower heading into the 2020-21 season. Tom Thibodeau could opt to take in a veteran guard in his first year as head coach for the Knicks.

There will be a lot to consider in free agency, but trades cannot be discounted. Among the names being linked to the Knicks are Chris Paul of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Victor Oladipo of the Indiana Pacers and Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors.

It would make sense but having a veteran guard without a scorer to feed to is not ideal. Jonathan Macri of Knicks Film School, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Knicks will be looking for a guy who can light it up in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Assuming the Knicks are unable to deal off their 8th overall pick, there are other players they can consider. Among the names suggested are Tyrese Haliburton and Killian Hayes. Aside from them, Thibodeau could also consider bringing in Cole Anthony or Kira Lewis Jr.

Thibodeau is expected to explore all options. But if the right player is offered, expect a trade happening in the coming days or maybe once the draft day comes.
