Kyrie Irving’s future with the Boston Celtics has come under the spotlight following the Boston Celtics elimination from the Eastern Conference playoffs in the second round. The rumors and speculation has gathered pace with more and more people believing that the point guard has played his last game for the Boston franchise.

The rumor making the rounds now is that Irving has discussed the possibility of reuniting with LeBron James, the very player from under whose shadow he wanted to get away from after winning the 2016 NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But after two years with the Celtics not going according to plan, and after having apologized to James about not understanding what it takes to lead a team and look at the bigger picture all the time – ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has revealed that Irving is reconsidering a potential reunion with the three-time NBA champion on Los Angeles Lakers roster.

The Lakers are facing a summer of rebuild after yet another disappointing campaign and have only recently zeroed in on a new head coach following the departure of Luke Walton. NBA insiders claim that Frank Vogel has agreed a three-year deal, but Windhorst claims that it is the appointment of Jason Kidd as his top assistant, which has further opened the door for Irving to land in Los Angeles.

The Celtics point guard grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, and is said to have been a big fan of the Brooklyn Nets and Kidd, who is a legend within the franchise having spent seven seasons with the team, who were then called the New Jersey Nets.

“I would’ve said that this is impossible for many months, but as time passes here and as the possibility exists that Jason Kidd could be hired as the Lakers coach, I think the possibility of Kyrie and LeBron reuniting — that door, which was deadbolted, has been un-deadbolted and has now been cracked open,” Windhorst said on ESPN radio, as transcribed by The Washington Post. “It might even be opening more by the day. And I say that just because I think it’s on Kyrie’s radar, it’s on Kyrie’s board. He has had discussions with people about playing for the Lakers.”

Irving had verbally committed to re-sign with the Celtics prior to the start of the 2018-19 campaign but has since backtracked and now maintains that his final decision will be revealed on July 1 when he enters free agency. The New York Knicks and Nets are also interested in the six-time All-Star, but it remains to be seen if there is any chance for act II for the James-Irving combine.
