The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of mending to do, a result of that failed push to lure in Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. Aside from not ending well, the aftermath is a roster made up of disgruntled players who were mentioned to be offered in that botched NBA trade deal.

Team president Earvin "Magic" Johnson has tried to do damage control, but it seems that the damage is too severe to remedy. While there are several players like Kyle Kuzma -- one of the names mentioned in the trade -- who understood the move, there are some who are still left flabbergasted by the whole thing.

Team owner Jeanie Buss came forward to air her piece and branded the notion of offering the whole Lakers team for "one player" as fake news. While she did not actually mention the name of Davis, it seems pretty obvious that she was referring to the 25-year-old Davis, according to Howard Beck.

It was the second time that such a claim has been made. It was also mentioned on ESPN's The Jump recently, claiming that what the Lakers offered for Davis was not true, the Silver Screen and Roll reported.

There are two things to consider with these latest reports on the Lakers and Davis. One is that Los Angeles may have offered something although minimal compared to the multiplayer trade for the NBA All-Star. Looking ahead, it could mean that the Lakers may still try to offer something to the Pelicans but definitely not lopsided one that was previously reported here.

Second, it is nothing more than damage control on the part of Buss with hopes of reinvigorating a demoralized roster. It has already hurt their chances of making the NBA postseason wars, a risk that is proving costly for the purple and gold.

The Lakers sit at 10th spot of the NBA Western Conference and would need a big, if not miraculous, run to snag the final slot to the postseason wars. They are 30-32 and trail the Sacramento Kings (31-31), San Antonio Spurs (34-29).

While it is not impossible for them to catch the last bus to the NBA playoffs, winning right now is what they need to do. But that can only happen once the mood inside the Lakers locker room lightens up to string up wins moving forward.
