Reggie Bullock would have been a great addition to the Los Angeles Lakers if only he was able to blend in well with the system of then-coach Luke Walton. Considering he was one of the reliable players of the Detroit Pistons, the acquisition made plenty of sense.

Unfortunately, instead of bringing in his usual numbers, Bullock struggled to get his groove back. Heading into the summer, Bullock is open to re-signing with the Lakers although there are precedents to consider. That includes the potential coming of either Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker, assuming that a deal prospers with either NBA superstar.

Should that be the case, it means Bullock is likely to get limited minutes. And with limited time on the floor, improving on last season’s numbers may be hard to overcome. Hence, it may be in Bullock’s best interest to consider testing the free agent market although it seems the Pistons are open to welcoming him back to their fold, The Athletic reported.

The Lakers acquired Bullock who was having a great season with the Pistons in exchange for Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a second-round draft pick back in February. Initially, Bullock was seen as a great addition to address the Lakers shortcomings at the point. Unfortunately, Los Angeles went the opposite direction and dropped crucial games – eventually failing to make it to the NBA playoffs, Sporting News reported.

There is no word yet on who the Lakers will be retaining except for LeBron James and their young stars. The purple and gold is expected to go after high profile names in NBA free agency, led no less by Irving and Walker. And while nothing has been set in stone, Bullock may only know his fate by that end. Thus, the best thing for him to do right now is to explore options and probably grab the best and first one that comes his way.

Looking as well at the Lakers situation, Bullock may want to factor in the turmoil brewing from within. The Lakers do have a new head coach in Frank Vogel, someone who could put Bullock to good use if he does re-sign. Unfortunately, his plight will also depend on Rob Pelinka who has been under fire for burning lines with some past players and of course Earvin Magic Johnson.

If last season is to be used as a comparison, Bullock may want to look at his numbers wearing a purple and gold jersey. While that could all change with longer time to prepare, not having a contract right now means he should entertain other offers – including one possibly coming from Detroit.
