Carmelo Anthony’s next stop remains a mystery, but the logical destination right now is the Los Angeles Lakers. So far, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have yet to make a final decision, meaning the 34-year-old is still available to other teams in need of a shooting forward.

Anthony is no longer a player most teams would covet. Some have hit his ability to get along with teammates and blend in with a team’s chemistry. This is one reason why the Lakers could be holding back, although a previous report explains how LeBron James could end up guiding Melo back on track.

It remains to be seen how long Anthony will wait for a call from the Lakers. There are several teams who could use someone like him for as long as he finds a way to blend in. One potential stop would be the Miami Heat where Banana Boat Buddy Dwyane Wade is playing, the New York Post reported. But will team president Pat Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra take that chance?

Like the Lakers, the Heat have a shot at making the NBA playoffs. They are currently tied for the eighth spot over in the Eastern Conference and could ramp up their chances by adding Anthony to the fold. His offensive potential is something that Miami could benefit from, a department where the Heat needs a big shot in the arm.

The downside of it all is nothing new. There are concerns over how Anthony can fit in with Spoelstra’s system – a concern that is similar to Luke Walton and the Lakers. And if Los Angeles has LeBron to help Anthony adjust, Miami can look to Wade to do the same. There is, however, a difference.

Wade is on his farewell tour, so making an effort to guide Anthony for the rest of the season may not be his main itinerary. Then again, D-Wade could somehow see Anthony as his successor and mold him into the next big star to lead the Heat as his NBA days come to a close.

It remains to be seen which other teams would be interested in gambling on Melo. He has been left idle for quite some time now and his playing condition will be a concern. If he goes on to finish the season without a team, his NBA playing years may be done although he can always consider playing overseas.
