  • Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant has been named in potential trade talks once again
  • Atlanta and Chicago are the two likeliest destinations for Grant
  • The NBA trade deadline is set for February 10 at 3:00 PM ET

Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant could find himself on a title-contending team before the season ends according to a report from James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

Edwards speculated that the Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies are likely landing spots for Grant.

Moving Grant this season would indicate that the Pistons are going all-in on the development of Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart and Cade Cunningham as their main core, making the uber-athletic 27-year-old the odd man out due to his age.

Of those four teams named by Edwards, the Hawks and Bulls are the likeliest to land Grant as they have the best chances of making the NBA Finals out of the Eastern Conference since teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks are already set with their lineups.

Since Grant’s affordable contract runs through the summer of 2022-2023, interested parties could put together a trade package featuring a young player and some picks in order to coincide with the timeline of their young core.

The Hawks could have a package centered around Kevin Huerter or De’Andre Hunter plus a few of their future picks in exchange for Grant, while the Bulls are a bit more restricted in the draft picks department but they do have promising rookie Ayo Dosunmu and sophomore Patrick Williams as possible trade pieces.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported last December that teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers were some of the teams who were considering making a move for Grant

Grant started off his career as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers then being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets before finally finding his footing in the league with the Pistons.

His development from an end-of-the-bench piece to a budding star in Detroit led to him winning Most Improved Player of the Year honors last season.

Whichever team decides to pull the trigger and get Grant is getting a high-motor, two-way player who can space the floor well, get his own shots and defend well against opposing big men.

As it stands, no trade packages have been floated from any side, and talks of Grant moving are all exploratory in nature for now.

Trade negotiations are expected to heat up in the coming days as the NBA trade deadline is set for February 10 at 3:00 PM ET.
