Andre Iguodala has made headlines with several teams interested in getting the veteran swingman. But the problem right now is that he owns a hefty $17.2 million salary that is becoming a problem for some teams. With NBA offseason opportunities dwindling by the day, there is a possibility that the 35-year-old cager may have to wait on the sidelines for as long as December with most ballclubs wary of making roster changes at this point.

A key element in getting an Iguodala trade done is assets. Several teams were busy this offseason and there the same NBA ballclubs who have expressed interest in the three-time champion. The most recent team that has been linked to the 9th overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft is the Dallas Mavericks but don't necessarily have the right assets to consummate the deal for now, Tim Cato of The Athletic learned from league sources.

After buying him out, the Memphis Grizzlies have held on to the 6-foot-6 swingman with hopes of at least getting something in exchange. So far, that has not developed even with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers reportedly interested in his services, Marc Stein reported last month citing unnamed sources.

The fate of Iguodala thus hangs in the balance. As things stand now, the Grizzlies are trying to squeeze out something from teams interested in the veteran NBA star although their options are getting smaller this summer. There is a chance that once the league opens shop in a couple of months, Iguodala will still be under their wing. If so, the question there is whether he will suit up or wait until he gets clarity on where he will be suiting up next.

The situation calls to mind the case of Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith. The only difference is that Iguodala has yet to suit up for the Grizzlies and there seems to be no taint in the relationship between the two sides. In all, it is a matter of which team is determined to avail of the services of the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.

The four teams listed were among the busy clubs this summer and have scarce resources to trade up for Iguodala. At any rate, the worst-case scenario for the Illinois native is to wait until December 15 - the time when players who signed contracts this summer are eligible to be traded.
