We’re nearly 25 percent of the way through the 2018-2019 NBA season, and the Western Conference is as competitive as can be. There’s a logjam at the top of the standings with 11 teams separated by just four games.

The Los Angeles Clippers (13-6) are the No.1 seed with the West’s best winning percentage and the fewest losses in the conference. L.A. is just ahead of the Golden State Warriors, who have won three straight games after struggling in the absence of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The Denver Nuggets (14-7) and Oklahoma City Thunder (12-7) aren't far behind.

Both the Memphis Grizzlies (12-8) and Portland Trail Blazers (12-8) have spent time atop the West. The Los Angeles Lakers (11-9) are the No.7 seed after suffering two straight losses.

The Sacramento Kings (10-10) are technically the last team in the current playoff picture, though they are tied with the San Antonio Spurs (10-10). The Dallas Mavericks (9-9) also have a .500 record.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (10-11) have played much better since trading Jimmy Butler, going 6-2. The New Orleans Pelicans (10-11) are on a four-game losing streak, and they are below .500 despite Anthony Davis’ eye-popping numbers.

The Houston Rockets (9-10) and Utah Jazz (9-12) are the West’s most disappointing teams. The Phoenix Suns (4-16) appear to be the only team in the conference that truly has no chance to make the postseason.

The Eastern Conference is far more spread out. The Toronto Raptors (18-4) have a three-game lead over the No.2 seed Milwaukee Bucks (14-6), and only five teams are more than a game above .500.

The New York Knicks (7-15), Chicago Bulls (5-16), Atlanta Hawks (5-16) and Cleveland Cavaliers (4-15) are all well on their way to the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery.
