The top three picks of the 2019 NBA Draft are virtually set in stone, but there should still be plenty of drama Thursday night. A bunch of teams are reportedly looking to trade their first-round picks, hoping to either move up in the draft or acquire an established NBA player.

The Boston Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans seem to have hopes of leaving the draft with a player that’s already had some success in the league. The Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves have their eyes on moving near the top of the lottery in order to land one of the best available prospects.

New Orleans controls the top of the draft. The Pelicans will take Duke’s Zion Williamson with the No.1 overall pick. After the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks make their selections—likely Murray State’s Ja Morant at No.2 and Duke’s R.J. Barrett at No.3—the Los Angeles Lakers will technically be on the clock at No.4, though the Pelicans really own the pick after trading Anthony Davis to L.A.

It’s been reported for over a week that New Orleans is shopping the No.4 selection. The Timberwolves and Hawks have emerged as potential trade partners for the Pelicans.

According to multiple reports, Minnesota has their eyes on Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland, who is the favorite to be picked fourth overall. The Timberwolves can offer the Pelicans the No.11 pick, in addition to a player on their roster. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested Thursday that Robert Covington could be sent from Minnesota to New Orleans in a possible deal.

For Atlanta, moving up in the draft might mean taking Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver. According to Sports’ Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo, the Hawks are eyeing the guard to potentially join their core of young players.

The Hawks own the No.8, No.10 and No.17 pick in the draft. They tried to send their two top-10 picks to the Knicks in exchange for the No.3 selection but were rebuffed, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Atlanta might be willing to absorb Solomon Hill’s contract in a trade with New Orleans for the No.4 pick.

The Celtics also have three first-rounders. If they trade the No.14, No.20 or No.22 pick, it would probably be for a player that’s already in the league.

Boston is reportedly about to lose both Kyrie Irving and Al Horford in free agency. The team is looking to trade Aaron Baynes, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Celtics need immediate help on the roster, and making a couple of those picks available might be able to accomplish that.
