  • Blake Griffin is sitting out NBA games for now as the Pistons look for a trade partner
  • Griffin's injury history is harming chances of potential NBA trade intentions of the Pistons
  • NBA teams are likely to wait for buyout before signing Griffin

It was bound to happen and it appears that time has come for Blake Griffin.

The numbers of the 31-year-old forward are alarmingly down, and the Detroit Pistons have agreed with the NBA All-Star player to sit out future games as they try to look for a suitable stop.

"After an extensive conversation with Blake's representatives, it has been determined that we will begin working to facilitate a resolution regarding his future with the team that maximizes the interests of both parties," Pistons general manager Troy Weaver told ESPN.

The Pistons have changed trajectory, opting to rebuild around younger players. Should a deal for Griffin get done, he would be the next NBA veteran to move out this season.

The first one was Derrick Rose who returned to the New York Knicks to reunite with former coach Tom Thibodeau.

As of this writing, there is no clarity on which team would take in the 2011 NBA Rookie of the Year. Teams are expected to consider his injury history, something that may make it even harder for the Pistons to find a potential trade partner.

But when healthy, Griffin can be a force to be reckoned with, Here are some potential landing spots for the 6-foot-9 NBA All-Star.

Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are looking for a player to beef up their roster and have the budget to spare.

Griffin could be a great fit although team president Danny Ainge is likely to be concerned about his injury history. He is a clear upgrade but someone who also carries some risks.

Brooklyn Nets

Looking at Steve Nash’s roster right now, he has more than enough talent to work with.

However, the power forward position could use some help although Griffin may need to lower his expectations.

Adding him would be a big boost but may need to adjust with stars like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden in the mix.

Los Angeles Lakers

In what is expected to raise a howl, the Los Angeles Lakers may consider taking in Griffin but only if he is bought out.

Especially with Anthony Davis sitting out, Griffin could be someone who can take some load off. However, this is only plausible if the six-time All-Star finds a way to stay healthy.

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are also looking for help and Griffin could provide that. The former NBA champions are struggling right now with their lineup so adding a bit of All-Star flavor could help.

Los Angeles Clippers

A return to the Los Angeles Clippers, the same team where Griffin came from, is also a possibility.

Head coach Tyronn Lue could use some big bodies in the lineup to back up Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. However, this may only make sense if Griffin is bought out.

In all, an NBA trade involving Griffin may be hard to picture. For the five teams and the rest, the best route is to wait for a buyout.

The Pistons are likely to wait until the NBA trade deadline on Mar. 25 before considering that, NBA.com reported. Griffin is owed $36.6 million this season and another $39 million for the 2021-22 season.
