KEY POINTS

  • Lonzo Ball and Precious Achiuwa loom as the perfect fit for the Houston Rockets' small-ball plans
  • Spencer Dinwiddie may be considered if the Rockets don't mind waiting for him to return from injury
  • The Rockets could be getting a younger version of Tucker in Achiuwa

The Houston Rockets are listening to offers for PJ Tucker, someone who is believed to be unhappy from the start.

As of this writing, nothing has been officially pitched although NBA clubs have until Mar. 25 to field one.

But this early, several teams have already been mentioned as having an interest in the 35-year-old player.

The Miami Heat are at the top of the list, a team where the 6-foot-5 cager could fit in perfectly. Erik Spoelstra is looking for more toughness up-front, not to mention some maturity to help big guys like Bam Adebayo.

Other teams are likely to consider it such as the New Orleans Hornets or Brooklyn Nets.

The Hornets need someone to mentor Zion Williamson or Brandon Ingram, two young stars on the rise.

As far as the Nets, adding Tucker would be nothing more than toughen up their power forward line. It would be a sensible stop for the veteran, especially if he has his eyes on contending for an NBA title.

At 35, it would not be surprising if the Nets or Heat are his preferred stops.

Looking at team needs, Lonzo Ball, Precious Achiuwa and Spencer Dinwiddie could make sense. But there are things to consider on these players.

Lonzo Ball

The former top pick has performed well this season and the consensus is that he is likely to move.

Seeing the small ball approach that the Rockets plan, he could be perfect for it. Ball has been known for his crisp passing and does better in the open court.

Precious Achiuwa

Achiuwa is athletic and would be a perfect addition. Houston is looking for a young player as it rebuilds for the future.

He seems like a younger version of Tucker, making him a curious chip to consider. Achiuwa would be a gem if the Rockets opt for youth over experience.

Spencer Dinwiddie

Considering Dinwiddie is out for the season, this is a move that could be saved for the future.

The Nets are the ones in need of Tucker, and the exchange would have made sense if Dinwiddie was healthy.

Houston could bite to package Dinwiddie as an investment. Their chances of advancing beyond the NBA regular season is not looking good, so unloading Tucker and adding a future piece is a possibility.
