“Save By the Bell” alum Tiffani Thiessen was recently cast in Netflix’s high school comedy, “Alexa & Katie.”

According to Deadline, Thiessen will play the role of Alexa’s (Paris Berelc) mother, Lori. “Alexa & Katie” will center on the story of two lifelong best friends, Alexa and Katie (Isabel May), who are eagerly waiting for their freshman year to start. In the multi-camera comedy, Alexa and Katie will face a huge problem that will make it impossible for the two of them to fit in. Throughout this struggle, Lori may or may not be of help to her daughter and her daughter’s best friend.

TV Line first reported about “Alexa & Katie” in April after Netflix agreed to release a 13-episode first season for the upcoming comedy. The series also serves as Netflix’s first original tween comedy. The streaming site’s other high-profile shows in the genre include “Fuller House,” “The Ranch” and “One Day at a Time.” All three shows came from other networks and are streaming on Netflix.

“Alexa & Katie” was created by “Hannah Montana” writer Heather Wordham. She will executive produce the show alongside showrunner Matthew Carlson. As of late, Netflix hasn’t announced when “Alexa & Katie” will be available for streaming.

Meanwhile, Thiessen’s acting career kicked off with starring roles in two popular high school series: “Saved By the Bell” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” In the former, she played the role of Kelly Kapowski, while she took on the role of Valerie Malone in the latter. When both shows were canceled, Thiessen moved on to star in FOX’s “Fastlane” and USA Network’s “White Collar,” where she gave life to characters of Billie Chambers and Elizabeth Burke, respectively.

Thiessen also appeared on “Just Shoot Me!,” “Good Morning America, Miami” and “Two Guys and a Girl.” She is currently headlining her own cooking show on the Cooking Channel, titled “Dinner at Tiffani’s.” The reality TV show just wrapped up its third season. Thiessen is also working on a cook book, and she will have a Christmas special that will air on the Cooking Network sometime in December.
