Officers shot and killed a man who trespassed into the Nevada National Security Site during a pursuit Monday.

The NNSS released a press release stating that the man drove in through the security gate and stopped eight miles past it. He then got down from the vehicle and approached the NNSS security protective force officers and Nye County Sheriff's officers, who were pursuing him, with a “cylindrical object” in his hand.

The officers shot him after he refused to listen to their verbal commands. He died at the spot.

Investigators said the FBI was informed about the incident and no officers were injured in the attack. The investigation was ongoing and no additional information was available.

This is a developing story.
