  • "Overwatch 2" was officially announced at BlizzCon 2019
  • Blizzard has not yet revealed the game's release window
  • A new leak reveals details about the "Overwatch 2" beta

Other than an official announcement at BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard has not yet revealed any additional information about "Overwatch 2." The sequel of the hit team shooter title is anticipated to launch on next-generation gaming consoles. If the latest leak is to go by, it appears that fans won’t have to wait long for the game’s release.

The latest "Overwatch 2" leak came from a reliable insider Metro. On Twitter, the tipster shared the hero-shooter sequel would launch in early 2021. Metro is a well-known “Overwatch” insider and has earned his name in the industry because of his accurate leaks.

The next season of the “Overwatch” League would be released in April 2021, the tipster revealed. Apparently, the delay could be deliberate as Blizzard intends to feature the sequel in the league. The tipster also mentioned the beta or full release of “Overwatch 2” could happen in February 2021.

In August, Metro said fans would most likely hear the next “Overwatch 2” content at the upcoming BlizzCon 2021. He also predicted at the time that a release or at least beta announcement would be made at the said event. It is worth mentioning the next major digital-only Blizzard event (BlizzCon) is set for February.

If the insider’s information is accurate, the highly likely scenario would be that “Overwatch 2” beta is announced at BlizzCon 2021 with a full release happening in March. There is a lesser chance that Blizzard would make a surprise launch since it is a virtual event. Fans have been speculating the upcoming event would be the platform where the next major “Overwatch 2” would take place.

“Overwatch” was released four years ago and Blizzard has rolled out countless sprays, skins, new heroes, events and maps. But over time, things start to grow stale, with fans increasingly becoming impatient for lack of “Overwatch 2” updates. It is high time that Blizzard releases the much-awaited team hero shooter sequel.

It is worth mentioning that while Metro’s information is exciting, it is not official. It is safe to take this leak with a pinch of salt.
