KEY POINTS

  • Zach Wilson is back in practice as he preps for his Week 4 return to NFL action
  • Joe Flacco is tasked to hold up the fort for the Jets
  • Robert Saleh fires back at critics after loss to the Ravens

The New York Jets are forced to rely on Joe Flacco for now with preferred starting quarterback Zach Wilson recuperating from a knee procedure.

Wilson suffered a bone bruise and torn meniscus in the preseason.

In fact, Jets coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Flacco would continue to be the team's starting play-caller when they face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 18.

But the good news is that Wilson appears to be on schedule as far as returning to reclaiming his old role.

According to a report by Pro Football Talk, the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft participated in practice on Wednesday, September 14.

It was the first time that Wilson was seen with the team since injuring his knee in August.

The 23-year-old player underwent meniscus surgery four weeks ago to address the injury.

He has since been undergoing rehab before emerging at Jets' practice this week.

Saleh also clarified that Wilson is not expected to return until at least Week 4.

With that said, the Jets will have to stick with Flacco for the next couple of weeks before Wilson can officially make his debut for the 2022 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The return of Wilson will hinge as well on how well the Utah native performs during practice. Hence, an earlier or later return will hinge entirely on that.

As for Flacco, he will be the center of attention once more in the Jets' game against the Browns in Week 2.

The NFL veteran opened the season against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens.

He went 37-for-59 for 307 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the 24–9 loss against the same team where he won a Super Bowl title.

As for Saleh, he is dealing with lots of criticism following their loss to the Ravens.

Saleh fired back at critics, telling them that he would hold them accountable once the time is right.

"I know it's going to happen," Saleh stated. "We're all taking receipts on all the people who continually mock and say that we're not going to do anything. I'm taking receipts and I'm going to be more than happy to share them with all of you when all is said and done."
