Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones that he needs to be careful of what he says in public, especially when it concerns one of his star players. At this point, NFL fans are eager to find out the status of Dak Prescott, someone who has yet to get a new contract.

Jones made comments following their 35-17 win over the New York Giants. It was there where he said that an extension with 26-year-old would be done on an imminent basis. The problem comes in when executive vice president Stephen Jones batted that the two sides will reach an agreement in due time. Further, he suggested that someone ask Jones to clarify the statements made.

The 76-year-old Cowboys team owner did just that, explaining how his words may have been taken out of context. He cleared the air when he appeared at 105.3 The Fan.

"[Imminent] means ready to take place, close, near, about to happen - those types of things," said Jones.

"As I've said so many times, nothing happens until both parties decide that what they're seeing and it's time to go. Nothing ever.

"I was asked for my opinion. I think that we are fast approaching an agreement. Then that's relative maybe to where we've been. On the other hand, that might be my opinion," he added.

Further, he went on to explain that his comments (or opinion) may differ from what Prescott would express. Jones pointed out how anyone could speak from a certain perspective. In his case, it was all about fast approaching a deal.

Prescott is set to earn $2.025 million for the 2019-20 NFL season but is expected to be handed a new pact. The Cowboys $30 million was reportedly rejected and it remains unclear what two-time Pro Bowler wants. There were reports that he was asking for $40 million annually, a bit higher than the previous $34 million a year reports back in June, CBS Sports reported.

In a previous post, Jones said that he would give his main stars salaries that are in line with the top-five contracts of their respective positions. So far, only Ezekiel Elliott has gotten a new lease. The 24-year-old agreed to a six-year $90 million contract, making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.
