  • James Morgan is a Florida International quarterback that the Cowboys can acquire in the NFL draft

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to make the most out of their offseason as they've been busy with free-agency and are looking at boosting their roster in the upcoming NFL draft. Speculation has emerged that they want to add a quality quarterback to their squad after gaining interest in Florida International standout, James Morgan.

After failing to make the playoffs in the 2019 campaign, the Dallas Cowboys are determined to bounce back in 2020. They’ve made significant moves in the offseason with notable signings and recently picked up defensive end Aldon Smith in a one-year deal upon his reinstatement. Smith was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft but hasn’t played a game since 2015 due to multiple off-field concerns.

In addition to Smith, the Cowboys also managed to upgrade their defensive line. Former Pro-Bowler Ha’Sean “Ha Ha” Clinton-Dix joins the team as their newest safety. He agreed to a one-year $4 million deal with $2.5 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys also benefited with the signing of longtime Los Angeles Rams kicker Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein.

With the moves the Cowboys are making, they can further take advantage of the upcoming draft to get more talent. One top prospect they’re rumored to have interest in is the six-foot-four FIU quarterback, Morgan. He weighs at 213 pounds and demonstrates incredible athleticism care of his strong arm.

In his senior year, Morgan threw for 2,585 yards in a span of 12 games with 14 touchdowns against five interceptions.

Per Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports, several teams have already assessed Morgan. “Florida International QB James Morgan has had 14 Skype/Zoom/FaceTime/whatever meetings with teams In addition to meeting with 26/32 teams at Shrine game. Hot name lately. Mid-round prospect,” Edholm tweeted.

Out of all of these teams, he mentioned the Cowboys to be one of them.

If the Cowboys are able to land Morgan in the first round then he will be surrounded by quality signal-callers to hone his game. Dak Prescott is the team’s current starter and can show him a thing or two about being an efficient quarterback in the league.
