  • Teddy Bridgewater denies reports of him asking for $25 million this offseason

  • The question now is whether a team would consider throwing Bridgewater that much money

Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has shot down rumors of him asking for a $25 million per year deal with any team this offseason.

In an appearance with Darren McKee of The Drive on 104.3 The Fan, Bridgewater cleared his name from the misleading rumor.

“You know, until it comes from me, it’s not true. And I think that’s what happens during this time of year. You see numbers come out, and you try to put a value on a guy, so that if things don’t work out with the team he’s playing on–‘Oh, he wanted too much money,’ things like that. And I’ll tell you right now: I haven’t mentioned anything about a new deal, anything. My primary focus is trying to help this team win football games, trying to get into the playoffs,” a clearly frustrated Bridgewater said as quoted by Andrew Mason of DNVR Sports.

The rumors of Bridgewater asking for that massive deal stemmed from Benjamin Albright’s report on the KOA Broncos Radio Network, which led to many of the Broncos faithful to bash the quarterback on social media.

As the season winds down to its inevitable conclusion, it cannot be avoided that clashing reports will emerge especially for someone who is as highly touted as Bridgewater.

The 2011 Big East Rookie of the Year is making $11.5 million per year on his current deal that he originally signed with the Carolina Panthers in March 2020, which is set to expire at the end of this season.

According to Over The Cap, there are over 15 quarterbacks who are making at least $25 million a year, so the Bridgewater rumors may have some legs to it.

However, the question that now emerges is whether a team would be willing to pay that much for his services next season.

Through 13 games with the Broncos this year, the 29-year-old has completed 67.6 percent of his passes which is good for 2,954 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions for a quarterback rating of 48.7 according to Pro Football Reference.
