KEY POINTS

  • Tyreek Hill was acquired by the Miami Dolphins in a massive trade with the Kansas City Chiefs
  • Hill headlines a speedy wide receiver group that can carry the Dolphins offense
  • Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa must improve quickly to take advantage of Hill's arrival

As the NFL offseason continues to roll on, the Miami Dolphins may have just made the most impactful trade yet after acquiring wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Official details of the trade is as follows:

  • Miami Dolphins acquire: WR Tyreek Hill
  • Kansas City Chiefs acquire: 2022 first, second and fourth-round picks, 2023 fourth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick in 2024

After the trade was announced, the NFL community went mad on social media as players like Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and newly-signed New York Jets tight end CJ Uzomah shared their reaction to the surprising development in Kansas City.

Retired wide receiver Julian Edelman also chimed in about the Dolphins’ latest acquisition.

Of all the reactions, Edelman’s has to be the most accurate as the Dolphins now have Hill, Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker and Cedrick Wilson Jr. as the headliners for their revamped wide receiving group.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has brought in the weapons needed for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to succeed, and it is now up to him to find a way to make the pieces fit together.

The 24-year-old quarterback has been criticized heavily throughout his career for his lack of strength to throw the ball downfield.

Sports Illustrated’s Michael Fabiano made a comparison between Tagovailoa and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes that perfectly encapsulates the situation that Hill be entering with Miami.

Among quarterbacks who played at least 12 games and attempted 20-plus yard pass attempts last season, Mahomes ranked ninth with 4.5 attempts per game and Tagovailoa ranked 30th with 2.3 attempts per game.

With Hill being one of the fastest players in the NFL today, Tagovailoa must find a way to exploit his ability to get open downfield quickly and sling the ball to him accurately.

Saying that the Dolphins’ success this season hinges mainly on their quarterback to develop a cannon arm this offseason is an understatement as the Dolphins ranked 25th last season in terms of total yards as shown by StatMuse.

Though the addition of a speedy receiver like Hill already has fans predicting the Dolphins will net a playoff berth this season, Tagovailoa must also rise up to the occasion and lead the team to greater heights.
