  • The Dallas Cowboys were praised for having a successful NFL draft
  • Top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb fell to the 17th pick by the Cowboys
  • It's speculated that the Cowboys have overtaken the Eagles as the favorites to win the NFC East division

The conclusion of the NFL draft gives the league a better idea of how their teams will fare in the upcoming year. While the offseason is far from over, the Dallas Cowboys have overtaken the Philadelphia Eagles as the favorites in the NFC East.

The 2019 season saw the Philadelphia Eagles end with a 9-7 clip as they secured the top seed in their division. The Eagles were able to make it to a third consecutive postseason appearance despite losing in the Wild Card round to the Seattle Seahawks.

It was a close race for the Eagles last year as the Cowboys were on their tail with an 8-8 record. The playoffs were out of the Cowboys’ reach as they failed to qualify for the second time in three years.

The upcoming year will feature a fresh start for both these teams as they look to bounce back to a stronger campaign. Both the Eagles and the Cowboys have been neck and neck in the NFC East but the recent draft gives Dallas a slight edge. Experts and fans believe that the Cowboys were able to make the most out of their selections and are favored to win their division.

While the draft grades won’t necessarily dictate a team’s future performance, it can paint a possible prediction. The Cowboys were able to haul top talent and secure replacements for the players they’ve lost in the offseason.

The biggest name that the Cowboys were able to get was star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb who slipped to the 17th pick. As one of the most coveted players of the draft, Lamb was hyped as the top wide receiver of this year’s class. Some mock drafts even had him going as early as the 12th overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders.

As teams passed by the chance to select Lamb, the Cowboys took advantage and selected the 21-year-old star from the University of Oklahoma. The consensus All-American caught 62 passes for 1,327 yards and converted 14 touchdowns in his 2019 season.

Despite the Cowboys praised as a winner of the draft, the unpredictable nature of any NFL season remains to be in play. It will be an interesting year on how the NFC East will play out with the new look of the Eagles and the Cowboys.
