The New York Giants have been among the biggest disappointments of the 2017 season. By Monday, the team may start an early house cleaning with a pair of high-profile firings.

League sources told ESPN that head coach Ben McAdoo "could be fired in the 24 hours after Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders," while general manager Jerry Reese's job security is "highly tenuous."

A team official wouldn't confirm or deny to ESPN that McAdoo's firing could be imminent.

The news comes days after longtime quarterback Eli Manning was benched in favor of Geno Smith. There is a consensus feeling that the move signaled that the Giants have little interest in seriously competing in the final weeks as they sit at the bottom of the NFC East with a 2-9 record.

McAdoo, 40, joined the Giants coaching staff in 2014, serving as then-head coach Tom Coughlin's offensive coordinator. In 2016, McAdoo replaced Coughlin, who had spent 12 seasons with the club. Last season, the Giants reached the playoffs with an 11-5 record. The Giants would later lose to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card game, 38-13.

The offense has sputtered under McAdoo, with many questioning his uninspired play-calling. However, the team has suffered numerous injuries, most notably to star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Reese, 54, has been the general manager since 2007 and has been with the organization since 1994. He has been part of a staff that has won two Super Bowls.
