  • Newton may be in the last leg of his career due to injuries, per an NFL insider

Cam Newton is patiently waiting for a chance to play pro football once more, and that desire may be granted soon.

With Russell Wilson out due to a finger injury, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed that they have reached out to the former NFL MVP about a possible stint.

However, Carroll bared that they are just doing due diligence and that they are not limiting their options to Newton.

According to Carroll, they are checking out all available quarterbacks, meaning that a Newton signing is not imminent.

“Just so you know, we have talked to him. We’re talking to everybody that could help us,” Carroll said to Mike Salk of 710 ESPN.

Wilson is expected to miss a couple of weeks with a busted finger. In the meantime, Geno Smith has filled the void for the Seahawks.

But it remains that Carroll needs more depth in the quarterback mix and Newton is one interesting name that could make sense for Seattle.

This comes not long after Newton revealed that he is already vaccinated against COVID-19 and wants to continue playing in the NFL.

The 32-year-old was released by the New England Patriots in the final roster cuts last August, a move that caught some by surprise, ESPN reported.

However, the move was seen as something that indicated that the Pats were putting New England’s fate on the shoulders of rookie Mac Jones.

Before he was let go, NFL insider Matt Maiocco pointed out that Newton is a far different player compared to the time he starred for the Carolina Panthers.

“Cam Newton at his best for a good many years in Carolina [and] was one heck of a quarterback. But last year, he was closer to the bottom as far as starting quarterbacks in the NFL," the journalist said on the Sports For All PH podcast.

"So I don’t know if he can get back to the level he was because I just don’t think he’s healthy. So I think he is probably on his final year or two as a quarterback in the NFL."
