Rumors that Tom Brady could join the San Francisco 49ers have gotten plenty of attention in recent days, but the reigning NFC champions are far from the quarterback’s most likely destination. With less than two weeks remaining until Brady officially becomes a free agent, the Tennessee Titans have emerged as the top contender to lure the 42-year-old away from the New England Patriots.

NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran, who unintentionally kickstarted the Brady to San Francisco buzz, pegged Tennessee as the favorite to sign Brady. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington has also given the Titans the best chance to acquire the six-time Super Bowl champion.

Both reporters believe it’s more likely than not that Brady has played his final game with the Patriots.

Brady was even seen facetiming with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, along with Patriots receiver Julian Edelman, at the Saturday’s college basketball game between Syracuse and North Carolina.

Oddsmakers have named Tennessee the biggest threat to New England in the Tom Brady Sweepstakes. FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Titans +220 betting odds to be Brady’s next team. The Patriots, once heavy favorites, have -125 odds to re-sign the signal caller.

The Las Vegas Raiders have the third-best odds to acquire Brady at +650. San Francisco is fourth with +750 odds.

According to multiple reports, Brady spoke with Patriots coach Bill Belichick on the phone Tuesday. A source told The Boston Herald that the conversation “didn’t go well.”

Tennessee has one week left to use the franchise tag on Ryan Tannehill. The quarterback is also headed for free agency after posting an NFL-best 117.5 passer rating with the Titans in the 2019 season.

Tannehill and Tennessee beat Brady and New England at Gillette Stadium in the wild-card round of the 2020 NFL playoffs. The Titans lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
