New York City -- A 59-year-old woman was slashed in an unprovoked New York City attack by a man wielding a box cutter in Midtown, Manhattan.

The unidentified victim suffered a wound on her right hand after the suspect, identified as Anthony Evans, 30, sneaked up from behind her and cut her on Seventh Avenue near West 42nd Street around 10 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

The NYPD shared a video of the incident and asked the public for any information that would lead to Evans’ arrest.

The accused appeared to have singled the woman out of the crowd as the video captured him walking up right behind her, raising his hand, and slashing her, according to the New York Post.

The victim said she had gone out to buy groceries and was on her way back home when Evans sliced her hand. He then escaped on foot.

The woman was taken to the hospital and was treated for her wound. She spoke to ABC7NY following the attack and admitted she is now terrified of leaving the house.

"So scared, yeah," she told the outlet. "First time, so, so, so scared. A lot of bleeding."

The man attacked “from the back,” the woman said, adding, "...I'm feeling someone punched my arm, my hand, and I said, 'Ah.' It's feeling very painful."

The woman, who is Asian, said she has never met the suspect before and noted that he didn’t say a word before slashing her. "No nothing, no conversation, no nothing," she said. "We don't know each other. No argue, nothing. Why you do this? [sic]"

Investigators are trying to find out if the victim’s race had anything to do with the attack.

Following the attack, the victim has been staying with her daughter, who said she hopes the police will nab the suspect.

The daughter said her mother is “traumatized” and “doesn’t wish this incident to happen to anyone,” as per NY Daily News.

“I hope they’re found soon so they don’t hurt anyone else,” the daughter added. “If it’s mental health-related I hope they’re found and receive the necessary treatment. If the perpetrator had malicious reasons I hope that they’re found and prosecuted.”
