“Orange is the New Black” Season 5 gave viewers all the feels when they featured Samira Wiley’s Poussey in one of the flashbacks.

In Season 4, Poussey was shot by one of the guards at Litchfield prison, shocking longtime fans and viewers of the series. Unfortunately, Poussey did not survive the shooting so the impression was that the character will no longer be seen in the original Netflix series ever again.

But in the final moments of Season 5, episode 6, a flashback of how Taystee (Danielle Brooks) met Poussey was revealed. While at the library, Taystee heard two white inmates talk about their shared love of “Weight Watchers.” After they leave, Taystee heard someone mock the two, and she joined in. Poussey later introduced herself to Taystee and immediately took a liking for the latter because they both love “Alice in Wonderland.”

Back to the present day, Taystee and all of her fellow inmates are still in shock following Poussey’s shooting. When they were asked to collect all the snacks and tampons from the governor’s office, Taystee refused to help them out. Instead, she urged Piper (Taylor Schilling) to help in getting her voice be heard by the higher-ups. Piper FaceTimed the governor’s assistant, and Taystee, in an act of protest, burned all of the snacks and tampons outside.

Meanwhile, another flashback was featured in episode 6, and it was from the time that Taystee celebrated her 18th birthday. Her foster parents told Taystee that her biological mom wants to reunite with her for her birthday. At first, everything was going well, but on their way to church, Taystee’s mom met up with a man and his daughter. When they asked who Taystee was, her mom said that she was the neighbor’s kid.

Taystee and her mom talked about this incident later, and she told her daughter that she wanted her to be part of her new family. Unfortunately, she didn’t know how to tell her current flame and his daughter that she has a biological daughter.

“Orange is the New Black” Season 5 started streaming on Netflix on June 9.
