  • The development of "Overwatch 2" heroes are reportedly finished
  • Development of the game's multiplayer maps and single-player campaign is done
  • A new leak revealed "Overwatch 2" might not yet release soon

A new set of updates on the development of the upcoming game sequel "Overwatch 2" is not the kind of news most fans and eSports enthusiasts would want to hear.

The latest update on the development of "Overwatch 2" was shared by an industry insider who goes by the name Metro. During a Twitch stream, the insider offered many good things about the development of new heroes, multiplayer maps and single-player campaigns, among others.

The insider said, "So from what I've gathered, the heroes are done, mostly. The new heroes they want to add for Overwatch 2 when its releases are done."

"And they have the single-player campaign done, basically. And they also have the maps done for multiplayer. They have all of them done," he added.

From these details, one can say that development is going well and Blizzard is probably preparing to release the game very soon. However, the insider said this is not the case. According to Metro, the development team is having a hard time in terms of hero balance, especially with pre-existing characters.

He also revealed that this particular work has only begun just recently.

The insider stated, "The thing they have not done is they did not consider reworking any heroes. For example, last time they showed the updates for Overwatch 2, the sneak peeks... they hadn't even considered how McCree may be completely busted with a stun in Overwatch 2."

Metro also revealed during the stream that "after people told them [developers], they now realized that they will need to rework heroes that they hadn't even considered." The insider further said, "In terms of gameplay, they've shown time and time again they have no clue. At this point, just hire someone who knows. They have pros. They have Overwatch League pros."

Speaking of Overwatch League, it is believed that the 2022 season might not begin until the second half of 2022. This claim is based on the belief that Blizzard would release "Overwatch 2" in the second half of 2022 so matches could be played on the sequel.

Since Overwatch League Grand Finals are usually scheduled for September, it only means fans have to wait one whole year in between OWL seasons. Interestingly, OWL VP Jon Spector has shot down these rumors. On Twitter, Spector said, "It's really not practical to respond to every rumor about our future plans, but in this case this story is inaccurate."

He added, "We have not set nor communicated dates about our 2022 season yet but do not plan to take a 'year-long hiatus' in any scenario we are considering currently." A long waiting time in between seasons would most likely have a negative impact on the interest of viewers.

With Blizzard's silence on the release window of "Overwatch 2," it looks like speculations about the game will continue to surface online.
