The Green Bay Packers’ 2018 NFL season ended with a thud as Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion and the team was shut out at Lambeau Field 31-0 by the Detroit Lions. With their worst record in a decade and a second straight third-place finish in the NFC North, Green Bay is working on finding their new head coach.

A few candidates to replace the fired Mike McCarthy have emerged before the start of the playoffs. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers have requested permission to interview New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, as well as Patriots’ defensive coordinator Brian Flores for their head coaching vacancy.

Adam Gase could soon emerge as a top candidate in Green Bay after being fired by the Miami Dolphins Interim coach Joe Philbin isn’t expected to be back after going 2-2 at the helm.

The coach that takes over the Packers will have the opportunity to select one of the best players in the 2019 NFL Draft. A 6-9-1 record gives Green Bay the No.12 overall selection. The Packers also own the No.32 pick because of a trade they made with the New Orleans Saints in the first round of last year’s draft.

Green Bay is hoping to find a head coach that won’t waste what the team has at quarterback. The Packers have made the Super Bowl just once with Rodgers under center.

Rodgers has long been considered to be one of the best quarterbacks—if not the best—in all of football. The veteran underperformed in 2018 after signing a record-setting deal, posting his second-worst completion percentage as a starter.

Without elite quarterback play, Green Bay was unable to be a very good team. The Packers finished 18th in total defense.
