On Jan. 3, Paighton Houston's body was recovered following her Dec. 20 disappearance. On that night, she was last seen leaving Tin Roof, a bar in Birmingham, around 10:45 pm. with two men she did not know. After leaving, she reportedly sent a text to a friend on Dec. 21 that read, "idk who I'm with so if I call please answer. I feel in trouble."

After an investigation into her whereabouts, she was found in a shallow grave near an abandoned house in Hueytown, Alabama. According to AL.com, her body was wrapped in "some sort of fabric." As reported by neighbors, an elderly man used to live at the residence, but family members removed him a while ago in an attempt to find proper care for him. A tip reportedly led law enforcement to the specific location, reports the Daily Mail.

Now, her mother, Charlaine Houston, has spoken out about moving forward following her daughter's recovery.

"Our family didn't get the news we had hoped for but I am very grateful that Paighton is coming home. We didn't have to go through the torture of not knowing what was happening to her and where she could be," she wrote in a Facebook post on Jan. 4, adding, "God answered our prayers, he brought her home to us."

Continuing, she said that her family has appreciated the outpouring of love and support from both the Trussville community and from people around the world as she knows her daughter has "touched the hearts of many." She then stated that she will lean on her religious faith to get through the future as she finds out more details about what happened after her disappearance and begins to move forward without Paighton.

This followed the family speaking out about conspiracy theories they had faced online leading up to the discovery of Paighton's body. Previously, Paighton's brother, Evan Houston, had acknowledged some of the things that had been said online throughout the investigation, but had stated that the family had continued to focus on the good.

At this time, no further details have been released as to what transpired after Paighton left the bar on Dec. 20. A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for funeral expenses. Additionally, information about her upcoming service, along with a tribute wall, can be found here.
