  • Paul Pogba wars Atletico Madrid that they will be facing a different Manchester United this time around
  • They had a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their round of 16 matchup in the UEFA Champions League
  • Cristiano Ronaldo's return to form was acknowledged by a delighted Pogba

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba fired a warning shot to Atletico Madrid ahead of their second leg matchup of the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

“We (Manchester United) knew what we did wrong [in the first leg] and I think we're going to work well to beat them. That's the most important thing. Now we are at home and we want to win," said the Frenchman as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

Pogba and Manchester United were forced to settle for a draw in their first matchup with Atletico Madrid in the latter’s home stadium at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Joao Felix led his side to an early 1-0 lead over the Red Devils following a powerful header that kept keeper David de Gea rooted to the spot.

Manchester United struggled to keep in step with Atletico Madrid for most of the match until a young winger of their own would deliver them from eating another loss.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Anthony Elanga would lead the speedy counterattack at the 80th minute and scored a wonderful goal draw level with Atletico Madrid at 1-1 heading into their matchup on Tuesday, March 15.

One thing going for either side is that both of them have the benefit of UEFA scrapping the away goal rule, which decided the victor of having drawn two-legged games by favoring the team that had scored the most away goals.

To illustrate, if Atletico Madrid and Manchester United were to score two goals apiece in the second leg, the former will be the ones to proceed into the next round (despite a 3-3 aggregate score) because the game will be played at Old Trafford.

With that rule now being defunct, Manchester United can feel at ease knowing that they only need at least a one-goal advantage to defeat Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United is fresh off a 3-2 victory over the Tottenham Hotspurs this past weekend in the English Premier League thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s first hattrick at Old Trafford since returning to the club.

Ronaldo will again figure to be the featured striker for the Red Devils when they face Atletico Madrid and Pogba could not be any happier to see his teammate end his goalscoring drought.

“[Cristiano] Ronaldo just did what Ronaldo [does] always, scoring goals. That's why he's here and we're really happy that he's scoring goals, that he's happy, that he's enjoying himself and the win today [Saturday] was just brilliant,” Pogba gushed after their win over the Tottenham Hotspurs.
