A Pennsylvania man fatally shot his roommate during a fight over a bag of fast food left on the couch, prosecutors said Sunday.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Gregory Hylton, 40, called 911 Saturday night saying he had accidentally shot his roommate, 25-year-old Sharif Simpson. He told the police that the fight began after he called the victim "pig" for leaving fast food bag on the couch.

The criminal complaint states that, Simpson, who was standing in the doorway to his bedroom, started arguing, after which Hylton got up from the couch and pushed Simpson into the room. The two then fell on the bed and started wrestling. Hylton took out a handgun from his waistband and started repeatedly hitting the victim with it. The two then started choking each other and then Hylton shot Simpson. The victim was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead, NBC Philadelphia reported.

According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, Hylton was charged with “criminal homicide” and “possession of an instrument of crime” and held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility without bail.

The investigation was ongoing.

In a similar incident in January this year, a North Carolina man was accused of shooting his roommate during argument over loud music. Police responded after receiving information that someone had been shot. When officers arrived, they found that the two men had gotten into an argument after one of them played music too loudly. Eugenio Salgado Cabrera asked his roommate to turn off the music. When the roommate refused, he went into a bedroom, got a handgun and shot him in the wrist. Cabrera was arrested and charged with “assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury,” CBS-affiliated television station WBTV reported.

In another similar incident in December 2018, an Arizona man fatally shot his roommate during an argument over music selection. Sheldon Sturgill, 41, told police that he got into an argument with his roommate over the music playing in their apartment. The roommate allegedly punched Sturgill, after which he took a gun from the room and fired four shots at the man, killing him. Sturgill was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, Fox News reported.
