  • Torreira expected to draw interest in the summer
  • Torreira dreams of returning and playing in Italy

Some players on Arsenal FC could be moving out and one of them could be midfielder Lucas Torreira. The 24-year-old Uruguayan national fractured his ankle back in March and has struggled to make it to the first team of Mikel Arteta. He made 33 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions before suffering the injury.

However, Torreira is one of the many injured players who has benefitted from the untimely break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. His agent, Pablo Bentancur, told TuttoMercatoWeb that his client is now fully recovered and believes that Torreira will be in high demand if he hits the market. But he added that the priority is staying with Arsenal if Arteta still wants the midfielder moving forward.

"I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great," Bentancur said.

Torreira joined Arsenal during outdoor training over the weekend after stepping up his rehabilitation. The Gunners are ramping up preparations with league plans to resume football action on June 17, Sky Sports reported. It remains to be seen if Torreirra can make it to the starting unit once the season resume.

As for his future, Torreira seems content playing for Arsenal at this point. However, he did mention that he dreams of possibly returning to Italy. And if that happens, the Uruguayan football player hopes to play for Boca where he could potentially stay for good until he retires, Fox Sports Argentina reported.

"Right now my head is in Europe and I was to stay for a while, but I have that desire and dream to go [to Boca] – and not just to retire, but to compete and feel what the Boca world is," Torreira said.

It appears Torreira is keeping tabs with the development over there. He has been frequently asking former teammate, Nahitan Nandez, about the latest on the club. He admits that it reached a point where he drove Nandez crazy about asking about Boca until last year. The 24-year-old midfielder has since moved to Cagliari.

It is an interesting plan on the part of Torreira and that dream could come to fruition in the future. For now, he has to focus on his commitment to Arsenal FC - at least until the end of the current season.
