  • Icardi is staying with PSG for good
  • Inter had no more space for Icardi
  • Inter set to talk with United on Alexis Sanchez

Argentine striker Mauro Icardi can breathe easy now following reports that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has come to terms with Inter Milan regarding his status. The 27-year-old Argentinian football player will be staying at Parc des Princes for good after both sides agreed to a $63.23 million fee plus add-ons. Icardi's contract was due to lapse on May 31.

Acquired last Sept. 2, Icardi has been doing well with PSG. He found himself out of the Inter Milan squad since Antonio Conte took over. It turns out that the move to Les Parisiens was a blessing in disguise with the Argentine striker scoring 20 goals in 31 appearances before Ligue 1 was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sky Sport reported.

The Icardi deal is one of PSG's first major signing. Originally, the asking fee for the Argentine national was around $86.44. Negotiations were done and both sides agreed to the lower fee of $63.23 million. The move is seen by critics as likely how other teams would negotiate with players on expiring deals as well as their targets. Most teams are trying to save up with financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus.

“Icardi wants to stay at PSG and we are in talks to make that happen," Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio said.

On their end, Inter is also hoping to address the situation of Alexis Sanchez next. The Chilean football player is currently on loan from Manchester United but has been injured for large chunks of the season. Ausilio expects the 31-year old to play on for Inter for the rest of the season.

This is despite reports that the status of Sanchez remains unresolved. Ausilio said that talks with the Red Devils have not yet progressed. Regardless, Antonio Conte has found a way to keep the club afloat without the South American around. Such has fueled rumors that Sanchez could be allowed to return to England but no official decision has been made as of this writing.

“He'll stay with us until the end of the season, then we'll decide about his future with Manchester United. He'll have the opportunity to show his skills,” Ausilio said to Sky Sport Italia.
