  • Norwich has rejected Liverpool's bid for Jamal Lewis
  • Norwich have valued Lewis at $26 million
  • The 2019-20 season was Lewis's first appearance in the Premier League

Norwich City apparently didn't need much time to ponder Liverpool FC’s $13 million bid for the rights to defender Jamal Lewis before rejecting the offer.

It is reported that Norwich have labeled Lewis at double Liverpool’s offer and are not in a hurry to sell the star defender, especially since he is under contract with them until 2023. Even though Norwich have been relegated to the Championship, the club is adamant that it won’t let any of its talented players go for cheap.

Liverpool are eyeing Lewis as a cover for their star left-back Any Robertson. In 2017, The Reds signed the Scot for a mere fee of $10 million from then-relegated Hull City. Jurgen Klopp has a similar plan for Lewis, who was impressive in the 2019-20 campaign, his first in the Premier League. Out of the 28 appearances in the Premier League this season, Lewis had 25 starts. The Northern Ireland national even scored a goal, which came against Leicester and helped Norwich clinch a crucial 1-0 win.

Lewis, who played in the Championship the last three seasons, could not save Norwich from getting relegated once again, but sure has earned the attention from other clubs. It is also understood that Newcastle United are monitoring Lewis’ transfer situation.

According to talkSPORT, Norwich took less than two hours to turn down Liverpool’s $13 million offer for Lewis. During the January transfer window, Norwich rejected Crystal Palace’s $15 million bid for Lewis. The Canaries reportedly are valuing the left-back at $26 million.

The report has further revealed that Lewis is keen on uniting with the likes of Robertson and Trent-Alexander Arnold at Anfield. Klopp, who is an admirer of Lewis, believes that Lewis will develop and learn better with his young and highly talented defenders. Lewis is also represented by PLG, the sports agency, the same as Robertson and Alexander-Arnold. The German boss is expected to use his famous backline pair’s connection with Lewis to secure the signatures of the 22-year-old left-back.

Lewis, who was named the English Football League’s Youth Player of the Month in September 2018, started his youth career with his home-town club Luton Town in 2009. He moved to Norwich’s youth team in 2014 and has been associated with the club ever since.
