Prince Andrew is gearing up for his daughter Princess Eugenie’s upcoming royal wedding on Oct. 12. The dad of two is expected to take front and center at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Ahead of this momentous occasion, some interesting facts about Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband have been revisited. For instance, Prince Andrew reportedly served in the army for 22 years. He began his military career in 1978 by learning how to fly helicopters. He also served aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible.

Prince Andrew was also actively involved in the war between Argentina and the British overseas territory the Falkland Islands. He carried out missions as part of his job with Invincible. Prince Andrew retired from active duty in 2001.
