Prince Carl Philip of Sweden just shared his dyslexia diagnosis and said that he once felt “stupid” after he was mocked by bullies online.

The 39-year-old revealed how he was criticized online five years ago after he misread the name of one of the winners during a sporting competition. The backlash inspired the dad to go public with his condition. The prince has also set up a foundation to help others with dyslexia and combat cyberbullying.

“People were very tough on me. It was a terrible feeling,” he said (via Daily Mail).

Earlier this month, the prince visited the Made by Dyslexia Global Summit in London to support the cause. His wife, Princess Sofia, 33, said that it was frustrating to see her husband’s full potential is limited by his concerns over public speaking.

But in recent years, Prince Carl Philip has shown tremendous improvement, and he is now able to read bedtime stories to their children. The couple has two sons, Alexander, 2, and Gabriel, 1.

Prior to making his condition public, the prince of Sweden said during an interview that he was worried he wouldn’t get all the words correctly. He said that his self-esteem was low and he felt dumb.

In related news, this isn’t the first time that the couple faced criticism online. In the past, Princess Sofia was also slammed for posing topless for magazines. She has been dubbed as Meghan Markle’s counterpart because just like the Duchess of Sussex, the princess has also starred in a television show in the United States.

“It was very tough. People had comments on everything possible, on what I do and how I look,” she said.

Prince Carl Philip is the second in line to the Swedish throne. He is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. In 1980, Prince Carl Philip’s older sister, Victoria, was given precedence in the line of succession.
