Prince Charles was encouraged to have as many affairs as he could by a member of the royal family before marrying Princess Diana.

In the documentary “Royal Stories,” the narrator revealed how when Prince Charles became the Prince of Wales women flocked to him because they wanted to become the Princess of Wales.

During this time, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Queen Elizabeth II’s second cousin, wrote a letter to Prince Charles while the latter was in his 20s.

“I believe in a case like yours that a man should sew his wild oats and have as many affairs as he can,” he Mountbatten wrote (via Express).

Mountbatten also served as a strong influence on Prince Charles, who referred to him as Uncle Dickie and as his honorary grandfather when King George VI died.

Mountbatten initially wanted Prince Charles to end up with his granddaughter Amanda Knatchbull, but the Prince of Wales ended up marrying Princess Diana in 1981. But during this time, Prince Charles still had feelings for his ex-girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall’s love affair started in 1970 when they met for the first time at a polo match. They dated until 1971 before Prince Charles joined the Royal Navy. In 1973, Prince Charles found out that Bowles wed Andrew Parker Bowles. Several years later, Prince Charles decided to wed Princess Diana.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Prince Charles wasn’t really sure about marrying Princess Diana, but Prince Philip forced him to propose. In “The Duchess of Cornwall: Camilla’s Story and Secrets,” author Jessica Jayne revealed that the Duke of Edinburgh told Prince Charles to either propose to Princess Diana or end their relationship for good.

Prince Charles didn’t want to disappoint his father that’s why he decided to propose to the late Princess of Wales. Their marriage was short-lived because, in 1992, Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated. Their divorce was finalized in 1996.
