Princess Diana fired her sons Prince William and Prince Harry’s nanny due to a shocking reason.

Katie Nicholl, a royal reporter, opened up about the late Princess of Wales’ struggles in the documentary “Princess Diana: The Quiet Revolution.” Nicholl said that the mom of two sacked nanny Barbara Barnes because Prince William and Prince Harry appeared to love her more than their own mother.

“Princess Diana was always paranoid as both of the boys were growing up that they might become too close to her. She fired one of their nannies, a wonderful woman called Barbara Barnes because it was Barbara Barnes that William would run up to and jump into bed with in the morning,” she said (via Express).

Nicholl said that Princess Diana found it difficult to juggle her life as a member of the royal family and as a new mom that’s why things took a toll on her.

Last month, the royal reporter also talked about Princess Diana’s relationship with her sons, as well as the controversy surrounding Barnes, in the documentary “Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm.”

Nicholl said that Princess Diana wanted to raise and feed her babies herself and seeing Barnes taking good care of Prince William and Prince Harry made her feel jealous. When Prince William turned 4 years old, Princess Diana fired Barnes. However, the Duke of Cambridge’s fondness for Barnes never faded away.

In 2011, Prince William invited his former nanny to his and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding at Westminster Abbey.

After Barnes’ firing, nanny Olga Powell was hired to take care of Prince William and Prince Harry. Richard Kay, a journalist for Daily Mail, claimed that Princess Diana approved of Powell. Prince William also developed a close bond with Powell and at the age of 10, she wrote a letter to the nanny sharing his feelings about his parents’ divorce.

When Powell died, Prince William made sure to attend her funeral even though it meant leaving his wife to carry out an engagement by herself.
