  • Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could set the precedent for Harry and Meghan's security

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would have to figure out a way to fund their hefty security bills in the coming months. And there are claims that they can look to Prince Charles for help.

While speaking with Express, royal expert Marlene Koenig said that Prince Charles could generously provide financial support for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex due to a precedent set by Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

“I love how some think Sussexes are entitled to protection because they are royal. A position in the line of succession does not mean you are entitled to protection. But if you are not a working royal you are not entitled to taxpayer-funded protection. Precedent York girls do not have taxpayer-funded,” Koenig said.

The royal expert went on to say that other royals are only protected during their engagements. And if Prince Harry and Markle want to be successful on their own merits, they would also have to use their own money for their security needs.

“Most likely the bank of dad will be funding the security in the short term which is not financial independence. I am fond of H&M but in order to be on their own they can’t take money from dad,” she said.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew used to pay for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s security even as members of the royal family even though they are not working royals. However, after the Duke of York was dragged into Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse case, he was forced to step down from his royal duties. As of late, it is unclear who has been funding his and Sarah Ferguson’s daughter’s security.

Last week, the Canadian government released a statement confirming that they will no longer shoulder Prince Harry and Markle’s security after their exit is made official at the end of the month. But when the royal couple first moved to North America, the government paid for their security team.
