  • A palace insider described it as an "utterly charming" moment in a new report
  • Royal fans were also happy to see the special bond between Prince Louis and Prince Charles

Prince Charles and his grandson Prince Louis' close bond was on full display during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this month.

The Prince of Wales, 73, shared a sweet moment with Prince William's youngest child, 4, during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on June 5 when Prince Louis took a seat on his grandfather's lap.

Prince Charles kept Prince Louis entertained, bouncing him on his knees to the rhythm of the music being performed at the time and pointing out elements of the parade.

"How utterly charming that was," an anonymous palace insider told People. "When you consider that [Charles] has been said to be a remote parent, to see him do that was charming."

The source added that although it is often said that Prince William and Kate Middleton's children are closer to their maternal grandparents, Carole and Michael Middleton, "it was lovely to see his other grandfather enjoying time with him too."

Royal fans couldn't help but gush over Prince Charles and Prince Louis' adorable interactions during the Jubilee celebration, saying they were glad to get a glimpse of the Prince of Wales' softer side.

"How adorable. How lovely to see this side of Prince Charles with his grandson," one person commented on a video of the sweet moment shared on YouTube.

"It’s lovely to see Prince Charles in grandpa mode. If it were not genuine, a child wouldn’t bother with pretense. This shows he is happy with his loving grandpa," another wrote.

"Absolutely adorable. You can see Prince William asking Louis if he wants to sit with his grandpa and Louis was ready to go. I bet Prince Charles is a good, doting grandpa," a third person added.

Prince Charles and Prince Louis' special bond has long been noticed by royal fans. When Prince Louis turned 2 years old in 2020, the heir apparent marked the milestone by sharing on Instagram a never-before-seen black-and-white photo, in which he carries his grandson and the little royal is hugging his grandfather.

The special moment was captured by the Duchess of Cambridge.

"A very happy birthday to Prince Louis, who turns 2 today," the caption read. "The young prince enjoys a hug from his grandfather, The Prince of Wales."

Prince Louis went viral earlier this month due to his adorable and funny antics during the Platinum Jubilee festivities. He was seen making silly faces and sticking his tongue out at his mom during the pageant and was also photographed covering his ears and appearing to scream while on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Colour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge even poked fun at their son's scene-stealing behavior in the statement they released after the Platinum Jubilee celebration.

"We all had an incredible time, especially Louis…," they wrote, adding eyes emoji.

Mike Tindall, husband of the Queen's granddaughter Zara Tindall, blamed Prince Louis' antics on having access to "a lot of sweets," which he said gave his nephew a "complete sugar high" that day.
